Akshara - Abyasam in my opinion should be done by a teacher who loves his/her student. rather than doing it in the presence of priests, i made sure that it is done by a person who wishes the student sincerely all the very best things in the academic career. keeping this in mind, i decided to do Aksharabyasam for Abirami with my teacher Mr.Soman, M.Sc.,( mathematics ) M.Ed., , tiruppur, who is a wonderfull teacher. a teacher with vision and great passion for teaching. we informed him in advance and when i went there along with my daughter abirami, my wife and my brother he was ready for Giving Aksharabyasam and blessings for his grand daughter... seeing me and my daughter, with great generosity, decided to give first to my daughter and then to his grand daughter... i was moved by his love and affection towards me and he blessed me and my child with his usual affectionate smile... unlike many, he started with numbers which he justified, saying even Thiruvalluvar has said, எண் என்ப, ஏனை எழுத்தென்ப, ........ அதனால, முதன்மையானது எண் ....... i still remember his face which brightened when he said this Kural ..... this passion , towards his mathematics and towards teaching justified my drive to take abirami to him for Aksharabyasam...He is a legend in mathematics and teaching and a wonderfull teacher on whom i have great respects and regards.
as we moved to chennai, and as ananya is completing 3 years by this october, my wife said, please take a leave and come to tiruppur for aksharabyasam.... but due to some changes and as i can not take leave, i told her to go ahead with my second daughter's aksharabyasam with my father in law as my wife and kid are in coimbatore for quarterly holidays... she said, they are planning to take her to Lord Saraswathi's temple on 28th for aksharabyasam .... i suggested to her suddenly, to do it with my father in law... he is a B.A.Lit in English and has a great passion for his language skills and i told my wife that there is no other better person in coimbatore who can do Aksharabyasam for Ananya than him ... i added, the only problem is he will start with A rather than " அ “ or the numbers like Soman sir.... i am sure, akshrabyasam done on grand father's lap ( had they been in tiruppur i would have asked them to take it with my father/mother as it is difficult to go to teacher without me), is a great feeling for the grand father as well as the grand daughter as it will be remembered for ever...
when it is done through the Guru, the student may forget Him/Her as the days go by, but when the Guru is a Grandfather, it becomes very special.... in that way, both my daughters are very lucky... one who was blessed by her father's Guru and the other blessed by an affectionate Appuchi....
as abirami is in tiruppur, in my parents house, interestingly one was not available on the other's akshrabyasam !!! i surely miss the occassion as i can imagine how ananya might behave on this day.... but Both Aksharabyasams were done on VijayaDasami and both by Wonderfull persons who have a great passion in their subject .....

i love chennai run - seven kilometres 27th sept 2009
As my programmes got cancelled to visit tiruppur for a function, i decided to participate in the " i love chennai run - seven kilometres " which was for the cause of providing education and other facilities to approximately 14600 students.i collected my bib on 26th ( 9092204267 ) and got the details and went around the place and returned home.
on sunday, 27th september, i reached the starting place ( literally wet ) by 7.30 after parking my bike in the island ground.... the atmosphere was electrifying... a school band team was playing the beats and large number of people reached the starting place to join the run which began 10 minutes ahead of time due to rain....
to me, this is the first run i am participating for a cause in chennai and it was a wonderfull feeling. announcements were on the mike asking all of us to start running from the starting point as the run had already begun and i could see corporates, and individuals, elderly people, all joining the run with great spirit.
when i crossed the first two or three kilometers non stop, i thought i should have practiced running few kilometres every day..... at one time i decided to stop running for a while and thought of walking at brisk pace and slowed down.... suddenly i heard huge roar and clapping by people and curiously looked around after collecting a water bottle..... i could not believe my eyes... a man with one normal leg and the other leg was with metal shoes was running at a nice speed and the people who were walking , were very much inspired by him , and started running behind him, clapping their hands and shouting up !! up !! and ohh !!! it was a wonderfull moment and i just noticed that i too was running instantly ... isnt this all about inspiration???
inspiration grew further when i noticed a big person, who was obese, too was running at a very slow pace... this is even greater because people admire a disabled person running and generally laugh at the sight of obese people running... in my opinion both are same... one is without leg and the other is without stamina, but both of them had the will to run, for the cause of children's education.... hats off to all of them who completed the run, either by walking or running ... what was more important is the participation !!!!
the drinking water arrangements were fantastic , thanks to parry who had supplied an approximate of 100,000 water bottles, and butter milk at the completion area by hutson etc.. are important things to appreciate....
few important things to be looked into towards the next run..
the runners who ran / walked, should not throw the empty water bottles on the road... there should have been big dust bins and should be thrown into it or they should carry it until they reach a place where they could dispose..... the roads were flooded with empty water bottles and caps which was a very bad sight ... it just reflected the irresponsible character of the people who threw it on the roads .....
as i said earlier, many people participated in the form of walks.... but the problem they created was, they were walking on the middle of the road, leaving very little space for runners who have to run between the people causing lot of difficulties .... next time, the middle of the road, say 5 feet, should be marked and left open only to the runners and the walkers can walk on either side of it....
irrespective of all this, it was a wonderfull run, and i felt very happy in running around 5 kilometres and walking in between for 2 kilometres and when i reached the finishing point, i felt very proud .... what i can not do individually, i was able to do it in the form of running for the cause...i decided to myself to be part of the running in the future as well ...
finally it also struck me that i should make the habit of walking every day to keep myself fitter and better.... after all this is also an eyeopener ..... i love chennai

managing people is an art
Managing people is an art. it becomes a complicated art, when you move into a new place which has a different working culture !! i had been working in tiruppur apparel industry for almost 18 years and moved to chennai with a high self esteem....
the work atmosphere in my new job has been quiet interesting as it involves the art of managing people and get the job done from them than doing all the basics by yourself... it is more challenging because i am still tempted to do most of the basic works by myself , assuming that giving it to my team would lead to trouble shooting at a later stage... though i would love to concentrate more on marketing and allowing my team to do the merchandising, i still by my nature do both ...
the merchandising part which is more of trouble shooting and planning, is a great art and generally it involves a lot of field work... the constant touch with the place of production and frequent visits alone make the job more successfull. every day, it requires an assumption of where things would or could go wrong and make plans accordingly. it requires a skill to gell with the production team without making them feel the pressure of on time delivery with quality. it requires logical thinking without jumping into conclusions of what others say.
marketing is not just getting orders... it is a wonderfull mixture of taking orders and providing an excellent service. the skill of marketing depends a lot on his knowledge of when to say no. while he can not keep on taking more and more orders, he can not compromise too much on quality and price as well. services like constant follow up of production plan and updating clients with latest trends, colours, styles etc.. will make the customer feel very comfortable and confident.
so the act of merchandising and marketing together involves lot of day to day affairs and getting along with lot of individuals who act on their own ways and characteristics.... this brings to my mind the famous words of J.R.D. TATA. " if i have any merit, it is getting along with individuals, according to their ways and charecteristics. At times it involves suppressing yourself. it is painful but necessary.... to be a leader you have got to lead human beings with affection " . the garment industry depends a lot on outside factors as well as too dependent on so many issues including weather and water. with great respects to the words of J.R.D. TATA, i hope some day i will master this art !!!
