i love chennai run - seven kilometres 27th sept 2009

As my programmes got cancelled to visit tiruppur for a function, i decided to participate in the " i love chennai run - seven kilometres " which was for the cause of providing education and other facilities to approximately 14600 students.i collected my bib on 26th ( 9092204267 ) and got the details and went around the place and returned home.

on sunday, 27th september, i reached the starting place ( literally wet ) by 7.30 after parking my bike in the island ground.... the atmosphere was electrifying... a school band team was playing the beats and large number of people reached the starting place to join the run which began 10 minutes ahead of time due to rain....

to me, this is the first run i am participating for a cause in chennai and it was a wonderfull feeling. announcements were on the mike asking all of us to start running from the starting point as the run had already begun and i could see corporates, and individuals, elderly people, all joining the run with great spirit.

when i crossed the first two or three kilometers non stop, i thought i should have practiced running few kilometres every day..... at one time i decided to stop running for a while and thought of walking at brisk pace and slowed down.... suddenly i heard huge roar and clapping by people and curiously looked around after collecting a water bottle..... i could not believe my eyes... a man with one normal leg and the other leg was with metal shoes was running at a nice speed and the people who were walking , were very much inspired by him , and started running behind him, clapping their hands and shouting up !! up !! and ohh !!! it was a wonderfull moment and i just noticed that i too was running instantly ... isnt this all about inspiration???

inspiration grew further when i noticed a big person, who was obese, too was running at a very slow pace... this is even greater because people admire a disabled person running and generally laugh at the sight of obese people running... in my opinion both are same... one is without leg and the other is without stamina, but both of them had the will to run, for the cause of children's education.... hats off to all of them who completed the run, either by walking or running ... what was more important is the participation !!!!

the drinking water arrangements were fantastic , thanks to parry who had supplied an approximate of 100,000 water bottles, and butter milk at the completion area by hutson etc.. are important things to appreciate....

few important things to be looked into towards the next run..

the runners who ran / walked, should not throw the empty water bottles on the road... there should have been big dust bins and should be thrown into it or they should carry it until they reach a place where they could dispose..... the roads were flooded with empty water bottles and caps which was a very bad sight ... it just reflected the irresponsible character of the people who threw it on the roads .....

as i said earlier, many people participated in the form of walks.... but the problem they created was, they were walking on the middle of the road, leaving very little space for runners who have to run between the people causing lot of difficulties .... next time, the middle of the road, say 5 feet, should be marked and left open only to the runners and the walkers can walk on either side of it....

irrespective of all this, it was a wonderfull run, and i felt very happy in running around 5 kilometres and walking in between for 2 kilometres and when i reached the finishing point, i felt very proud .... what i can not do individually, i was able to do it in the form of running for the cause...i decided to myself to be part of the running in the future as well ...

finally it also struck me that i should make the habit of walking every day to keep myself fitter and better.... after all this is also an eyeopener ..... i love chennai
